Chief Ken Harmon has 28 years of experience in Law Enforcement. He began his service to the City of Commerce in 2002 rising in rank to Deputy Chief of Police. He has worked in a variety of roles in law enforcement to include Uniform Patrol, Traffic Enforcement, Criminal investigations, and as a Task force officer for the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Chief Ken Harmon earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Public Administration from Liberty University. He holds a Master’s of Public Safety Administration Degree from Columbus State University. Chief Harmon is a graduate of the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College. He is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville.
Chief Harmon is an active member of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He is also an active member of the Southern Police Institute Alumni Association.
Throughout his nearly three decade law enforcement career Chief Harmon has endeavored to build quality relationships within the community. He intends to use the tenets of 21st Century Policing along with intelligence–led strategies, to effectively use limited police resources to reduce crime and enhance quality of life. An emphasis on building trust and strengthening community relationships between all community members and the Commerce Police Department will be the cornerstone of his administration.
