Frequently Asked Questions About Street Paving

  1. Will my driveway be blocked? There may be short periods when access to your driveway is limited while crews are working directly in front of your home. Crews will reopen driveways as soon as it is safe. If you have special access needs, contact Public Works so they can coordinate with you.
  2. How long will paving take on my street? Most streets are completed within 1–2 days, depending on weather and project size. Some preparation work (milling, patching, shoulder work) may occur before or after the main paving day.
  3. Will I be notified before work begins? Yes. The City posts updates online & places signs ahead of paving. Project timelines can shift based on weather or contractor availability.
  4. What if I need to enter or leave my home during paving? Crews will work with residents to provide safe passage when possible. There may be brief delays while equipment is moved. For urgent needs, flaggers can assist you.
  5. Can emergency vehicles still reach me? Absolutely. Emergency services are always provided access. Work zones are designed to allow immediate entry for police, fire, and EMS vehicles.
  6. Will trash and recycling be picked up? Collection services normally continue as scheduled. If trucks cannot access your street temporarily, crews coordinate alternative pick‑up times.
  7. How will this affect on‑street parking? All vehicles must be removed from the roadway during active paving operations. Cars left on the street may delay work or be moved at the owner’s expense.
  8. What about mail delivery, package delivery, or school buses? Temporary traffic controls may slow service, but carriers and schools are notified of paving zones so they can adjust routes as needed.
  9. Why are there no exact dates on the schedule? Paving schedules often change due to weather, equipment availability, and contractor coordination. Because of this, the City may publish locations first and add dates as they are confirmed.
  10. Who do I contact with questions or concerns? Public Works is the primary contact for paving questions. 706-335-3287 or sslaton@commercega.gov.
