Economic Development
The economic development of Jackson County and the City of Commerce are experiencing excellent growth as the Atlanta market expands northeast up the I-85 corridor. As I -85 corridor extends the number of lanes from Atlanta to Charlotte, Commerce will continue to attract industry. The Mayor and Council work closely with the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and state-wide developers to bring new commercial and industrial growth to the area. In 2019, SK Innovations announced plans to build a battery plant in Commerce and became the largest foreign investment in the State of Georgia. Commerce is looking forward to continuing to grow in industrial developments. Recent construction of the Southeast Toyota plant will host the largest rail spur in Georgia. The Downtown Development Authority and Main Street Commerce are working hard on beautification streetscapes and revitalization of the downtown area. New small businesses are beginning to open downtown. Downtown recently secured a brewery in the Commercial Business District and will add living space to the downtown as well.
The East Jackson Industrial Park serves the needs of smaller acreage businesses and utilizes easy access to commercial corridors along the Hwy 98 and Hwy 441 and Concord Road service the needs of our growing commercial and retail businesses.
